Semi–Private Lessons
Our semi-private courses are an invaluable resource, offering you the opportunity to enroll your child in courses that are integral to their childhood development. In our semi-private courses, children will have the ability to fine-tune their skills or simply gain additional practice under the watchful eye of our talented instructors. Watch your child flourish with confidence as their talents develop and progress. Performances showcasing your child’s progress will be held throughout the year!
Art Classes
Drawing and Painting ~ Primary & Elementary
Using different periods throughout art history, children will unleash their creativity while learning the basic elements of drawing and painting. Concentrating on technical skills and creativity, children will learn about famous artists like Picasso, Van Gogh, Monet, Matisse, and their techniques. Artists will learn how to work with pencils, pens, pastels, tempera and watercolor, and have the opportunity to create their own masterpieces in the style of each artist & art period that they study.
Athletics Classes
Golf ~ Primary & Elementary
Providing expert instruction in all aspects of the game, from swing fundamentals to rules, etiquette, safety, course management and life values, IvyCrest offers a premier junior golf program.
Gymnastics ~ Pre-Primary, Primary & Elementary
All students will have a fun and safe time while learning balance, coordination, flexibility, strength and the basic fundamentals of gymnastics. Children will gain more self-confidence and motivation as they work with the balance beam, bars, vault, floor, parachute, hoops and ribbons.
Martial Arts ~ Primary & Elementary
Martial Arts is studied for various reasons including sport fitness, self-defense, self-cultivation, mental discipline, character development and building self-confidence. This class will not only improve the student’s physical strength, flexibility and overall health, but also their self esteem, mental alertness and goal setting skills through the various lessons and exercises. Students will have regular belt testing to advance to the next level.
Power Sports ~ Primary & Elementary
Young athletes will get active and learn many sports in this high octane course! In this class, children will not only have the opportunity to get a little more exercise, but learn the fundamentals of many different professional sports including basketball, soccer, football, track and field, tennis, volleyball and baseball.
Soccer ~ Primary & Elementary
Soccer is an excellent source of physical activity and encourages the development of healthy lifestyle habits. Through activities and games, your child’s character and attitude will be challenged and molded positively, as they are taught the elements of teamwork, sharing, communication, and respect. Not to mention, it’s a lot of fun!
Music Classes
I’ve Got Rhythm ~ Primary
In this new and exciting introduction to music class, children will learn the fundamentals of music in an Orff inspired music class. The Orff approach is one of several developmental approaches (similar to the Kodaly Method) used to teach music education to students. It combines music, movement, drama, and speech into lessons that are similar to a child's world of play.
Vocal Techniques ~ Elementary
Students will receive lessons covering the foundations of vocal development, including warm ups, ear training, intonation, and basic music theory. The lessons will cover many different genres of music, from classical to musical theater, to broaden the children’s repertoire and musicality.
Recorder Ensemble ~ Elementary
Recorder is used in elementary schools as a precursor to learning a wind instrument because it teaches the basic fundamentals of reading music, rhythm, proper breathing, posture, embouchure, ensemble playing and musicality. Children who start playing recorder will find it much easier to learn a woodwind or brass instrument once they are in middle school. In this beginning ensemble class, students will study different musical styles and genres but most importantly, have fun learning how to play music together! This ensemble will have performance opportunities through the year at various school events.
IvyCrest Choir ~ Upper Elementary, by Audition Only
This ensemble takes the concepts learned in our Vocal Techniques class to the next level. Through the study of advanced repertoire, children will focus on vocal development, diction and ensemble singing. The IvyCrest Choir will perform at school events and public performances throughout the school year. Open to children from rooms 10 and 11, this ensemble is by audition only. Please see the School of the Arts Director for further information and audition dates.
Violin Program
Magic Violin ~ Primary
Introduces each student to the violin, this fun ensemble class emphasizes music appreciation, rhythm work, movement, playing rhythm instruments and singing. Each child will make a box violin and bow (Magic Violin) to keep, teaching them the fundamental parts of the violin. The class will also share a real violin, engaging the children with this beautiful instrument. Class size is limited to six students.
Happy Violin ~ Primary & Elementary
Teaching each student a love and understanding of music through playing the violin, this private course builds a relationship with the instrument as well as performance confidence. This uniquely structured lesson schedule will include several short lessons each week.
Dance Classes
Creative Movement ~ Pre-Primary
This introductory dance class will help develop your child’s body movement and spatial awareness. Children will benefit through improved muscle development and coordination, increased self-control and self-esteem, and imaginative interactions with their peers. Colorful props and exciting music will be used to stimulate the child’s cognitive skills and imagination.
Ballet/Tap ~ Primary & Elementary
Students will acquire familiarity with the French terminology for the fundamental ballet positions, exhibit basic body alignment and posture, while beginning to hear and count rhythm in music. Fundamental tap movements and techniques will also be covered in this combination dance class.
Gentlemen’s Tap ~ Primary & Elementary
Our young male dancers will learn basic tap techniques and movements in this fun “boys only” tap class! Physical strength and confidence on stage will be naturally developed in this high energy dance class!
Jazz/Lyrical ~ Primary & Elementary
Students will learn basic techniques, movements, terminology, and musicality, as well as beginning through advanced concepts of contemporary dance. Physical strength, confidence, body alignment and posture will be developed while children learn choreography.
Skill Building Classes
Chess Club ~ Elementary
In this introductory class, children will learn how to set up a chess board, the rules of the game, standard opening moves and strategies to capture an opponent’s pieces and win the game. Each week during chess club, players will learn new moves, solve chess puzzles (checkmate in under 3 moves!), study famous games and have the opportunity to apply the rules and strategies they’re learning in a real game setting.
Theater Classes
Acting “Fun”damentals ~ Primary & Elementary
In this fun-filled and active class, students will explore the use of their voice and body as means for expression in performance, in addition to everyday communication. Children will participate in group exercises that will help expand their physical and vocal capabilities, culminating in performances of monologue and scene work.
